Glittering Investments in Zimbabwe

In Zimbabwe, the old saying “All that glitters is not gold”, does not apply at all. It’s rather all that glitters makes gold. One of my early mentors once told me that until you know value everything is worthless. As we travelled around the country searching for investment opportunities in Zimbabwe, we came across a glittering investment opportunity which can be manipulated at any level of investment.

In Zimbabwe, if you are not tilling the land you are selling it. Every stone that is found in Zimbabwe is worth something. The glitter stone is one of the finest house finish used in top notch hotels and guest houses. I have seen it being exploited by locals in two parts of the mineral rich country Zimbabwe – manicaland and mashonaland west regions. It exists as the main material that makes up the mountains in that region. Imagine owning a glitter mountain.

Glitter stones are used as substitutes for tiles giving a natural shiny stone finish. The internal floors are vanished once in five years whilst the external floors are vanished once a year. Apart from being used as drive way surfacing, glitter stones are a perfect replacement for flooring and wall decorations.

The cost of the stone per square metre is amazing. We did a rough calculation and discovered that normal tiling costs approximately $5,000 for tiling a standard house whilst glitter stone costs less than $500.00. The large disparity is mainly because few know of its existence and those who mine it haven’t been able to market it nationwide.
